What is this medication for?
Trimebutine is used to help make the movement of the intestinal tract more normal. It regulates intestinal motility, ether slowing down or speeding up the movement of the intestines if the gut is not working well.  It relieves symptoms such as abdominal pain, cramps, spasms, flatulence, diarrhoea, and/or constipation. 
How should I take/use this medication?
Trimebutine can be taken before or after food.
What should I do if I forget to take/use this medication?
  • Trimebutine is generally taken on an as-needed basis. Take them regularly only when directed by the doctor.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your usual timing. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for the missed dose.
What precautions should I take?

Inform your healthcare professional if:

  • You are pregnant, plan on getting pregnant, or are breast-feeding. 
What are some common side-effects of this medication?

The most common side effects of Trimebutine are:

  • Drowsiness 
    • Do not drive or operate machinery
  • Dry mouth
  • Diarrhea or Constipation
  • Nausea

These side effects mostly occur after the first dose of the medicine and will usually stop as treatment continues. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if the side effects become severe and bothersome.

What are some rare but serious side-effects that I need to seek medical advice immediately?

The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following:

  • Swollen face/eyes/lips/tongue
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Itchy skin rashes over your whole body

Other rare but serious effects that may occur include: 

  • Difficulty urinating

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your healthcare professional immediately.

How should I store this medication?
Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep this medication away from children.
How should I throw away this medication safely?
Pack this medication into a black trash bag and seal it tightly before throwing into the rubbish chute or bin.
