What is this medication for?
Colpermin capsules contains natural peppermint oil, with its chief constituent menthol, embedded in a paste like base. It is used to relief symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as cramps, fullness and bloating.  
How should I take/use this medication?
  • Take your medication as prescribed by your healthcare professional.
  • Take this medication at least 30 mins before meals on an empty stomach.
  • The capsule should not be broken or chewed, otherwise the peppermint oil released could produce symptoms of irritation, especially heartburn.
  • Avoid taking Colpermin at the same time with antacids as this could cause the capsule to dissolve prematurely leading symptoms of heartburn.
What should I do if I forget to take/use this medication?
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Then take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses to make up for the missed dose.
What precautions should I take?

Inform your healthcare professional if:

  • You are allergic to peppermint oil, especially menthol, or to any of the excipients listed the composition of Colpermin.
  • You have a history of bile duct obstruction, gallbladder inflammation or liver injury.
  • Under the age of 15 years old.
What are some common side-effects of this medication?
  • Heartburn might arise if taken on a full stomach.
  • Local irritation at peri-anal area might arise in patient taking Colpermin with haemorrhoids.
What are some rare but serious side-effects that I need to seek medical advice immediately?

The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following:

  • Swollen face/eyes/lips/tongue
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Itchy skin rashes over your whole body

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your healthcare professional immediately.

What food or medication should I avoid when I take or use this medication?
Avoid concurrent administration with Antacids as this could cause the capsule to dissolve prematurely leading symptoms of heartburn.
How should I store this medication?
Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep this medication away from children.
How should I throw away this medication safely?
Pack this medication into a black trash bag and seal it tightly before throwing into the rubbish chute or bin.
