Dementia
Dementia is often misunderstood to be a natural part of the ageing process. In fact, dementia is caused by physical and chemical changes in the brain, and persons diagnosed with dementia are getting younger. More than 100 cases of young onset dementia are diagnosed each year at the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI), and the number of people living with dementia in Singapore is expected to increase to 152,000 by year 2030, according to the Ministry of Health (2021).
