Loratadine / Fexofenadine, Pseudoephedrine

Loratadine/pseudoephedrine (also known as De-Cold®) and Fexofenadine/ pseudoephedrine (Telfast-D®) are combinations of an antihistamine and a decongestant.
This medicine is used to reduce congestion, sneezing and runny nose.
Take a dose when necessary to relieve nasal symptoms. Swallow tablet whole with or without food.
Most of the time, this medicine is taken on an as needed basis. Do not exceed the recommended dose given by your healthcare professional.
Inform your healthcare professional if:
- You are allergic to this medicine or any of the other ingredient of this medicine
- You are on monoamine oxidase inhibitors (i.e. selegiline) or within 14 days of discontinuation of such treatment
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have conditions such as:
- Narrow angle glaucoma
- Severe high blood pressure
- Severe coronary artery disease (heart disease)
- Under the age of 12 years old
Some common side effects include:
Difficulty sleeping:
- Take your medication earlier in the evening or at a different time of the day.
- Avoid eating or drinking too much before bedtime
- Limit caffeine intake (such as coffee, tea or energy drinks) at least 8 hours before bedtime
Dry mouth:
- Drink more water or suck on ice cubes to reduce the mouth dryness.
Difficulty passing urine:
- If persistent, stop taking medication and consult your healthcare professional immediately.
Palpitations, headache or increased blood pressure:
- If persistent, stop taking medication and consult your healthcare professional immediately.
The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following:
- Swollen face/eyes/lips/tongue
- Difficulty in breathing
- Itchy skin rashes over your whole body
If you experience any of these rare symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your healthcare professional immediately.
Check with your healthcare professional before taking loratadine/pseudoephedrine if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Many over-the-counter medications contain antihistamines. Always check with your health care professional before taking other over-the-counter medications at the same time to prevent overdosing.
Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Pack this medication into a black trash bag and seal it tightly before throwing into the rubbish chute or bin.
