Medical Social Workers (MSWs) provide care to patients and their families by addressing the psychological, emotional, social, economic and physical impact that their medical condition(s) have on their lives.
MSWs provide counselling support, crisis intervention, financial assistance, as well as care arrangements and support for caregivers. They are also involved in Advanced Care Planning (ACP), which is the process of delegating decision making for future care treatments when one is no longer able to do so due to illness.
To practise a Medical Social Worker, you will require these qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts (Social Work)
- Graduate Diploma in Social Work
- Bachelor of Social Work with Minor
- Bachelor of Social Work
- Master of Social Work - Graduate-Entry Level Masters (GEMS) Programme
- Graduate Diploma in Social Work
