Radiation Therapist

Radiation Therapists play an important role as integral members of the multi-disciplinary Oncology team together with Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Physicists and Oncology Nurses to determine the best radiation treatment plan for patients.

The goal of Radiation Therapy (RT) treatment is to eliminate cancer cells while protecting and minimising damage to surrounding healthy organs. Radiation Therapists perform RT simulation, tailor customised treatment plans and perform dose calculations using advanced treatment planning systems. They also perform rigorous checks and verification to ensure precision and accuracy when administering the RT treatment.

Throughout the course of patients' treatment, Radiation Therapists actively educate patients and their loved ones, providing advice on pre-treatment preparation, what to expect during the course of treatment, possible side-effects of treatment and how to manage them.
