A Day in the Life of a Podiatrist
Podiatrists are experts in assessing, diagnosing and treating abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Podiatrists provide care for patients of all ages and see a wide range of foot problems such as skin and nail conditions, foot pain due to structural issues of the lower limb, and sports injuries. They assist the elderly in preventing diabetic foot amputations, managing foot pain and keeping them on their feet.
Podiatrists perform nail surgery under local anaesthesia, remove unhealthy tissue to facilitate wound healing and also prescribe and manufacture custom insoles to alleviate foot pain.
In addition, they conduct educational programmes to increase public health awareness on good foot care and correct footwear selection.
How to become a Podiatrist?
To practise as a Podiatrist, you will require a Bachelor’s degree in Podiatry.
Currently, there are no training institutions in Singapore offering courses in Podiatry.
