A/Prof Loh graduated from University College London Medical School. He completed his intensive care and anaesthesia training in the United Kingdom, and is dually accredited in both fields. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, a Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, and holds the European Diploma in Intensive Care. During his time in the UK, he completed a research fellowship at the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease, University of Liverpool. Before moving to Singapore in 2014, he served as the Chairman of the Intensive Care Unit at The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, England’s largest dedicated neurointensive care unit.
Currently, Adj A/Prof Loh holds multiple leadership roles at the National University Hospital (NUH), including Head of the Division of Critical Care and Senior Consultant in the Department of Anaesthesia. He is also the Research Director for the Department of Anaesthesia and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. His clinical subspecialty is neuroanaesthesia and critical care, having received extensive training in Milan, Montpellier, and Liverpool. His translational research focuses on improving outcomes for patients following major surgery and critical illness, specifically by modulating inflammation and ageing. He has been awarded over half a million in competitive grants and leads major studies on sepsis and delirium projects.
Beyond clinical and research excellence, Adj A/Prof Loh serves as the Associate Chairman Medical Board (Clinical Risk Management) at NUH. He is deeply interested in the ethical and medico-legal aspects of medicine, actively advising clinical departments and functioning as a certified Mediator. A dedicated educator, he teaches informed consent for healthcare practitioners and acts as an examiner for the NUS Masters of Medicine in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesiology. He has been recognized with numerous teaching awards and was named the "Most Approachable Clinician of the Year” by his department for many years.
