Dr Tiffany Gan Rui Xuan graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, in 2017 with multiple Dean’s List honours. She was awarded the Nihal Kaur Sidhu Gold Medal in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the S.S. Ratnam Book Prize. Her training included clerkships at St. Olav’s Hospital in Norway and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Teaching Hospital, where she achieved Honors with Distinction.
In 2018, Dr Gan entered the General Surgery Residency Programme at the National University Hospital, attaining her Master of Medicine in Surgery in 2021. She was conferred Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (General Surgery) in 2024 and achieved Specialist Accreditation in General Surgery by the Ministry of Health, Singapore.
Her clinical expertise lies in thyroid and parathyroid surgery, with a special focus on minimally invasive approaches and innovative endocrine interventions. She pioneered the weekly Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) clinic, improving diagnostic efficiency and patient experience. As co-chair of the Surgical Endocrinology Multidisciplinary Team, she helps shape coordinated, evidence-based care for complex endocrine cases. Her broader surgical practice also includes breast surgery, acute care surgery, endoscopy, and hernia repair.
Passionate about advancing care, Dr Gan’s research explores endocrine surgery, health systems design, and artificial intelligence in surgery. She has received multiple accolades, including the Young Investigator Award at the 19th Congress of the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Abstract Prize at the Charing Cross International Symposium (2023), and the JurongHealth Campus Investigator Award (2025). Her work has been published in leading journals, and her landmark study on thyroid cytopathology—featured in The Straits Times—helped refine cancer risk stratification. She is also the co-lead investigator in international multicentre studies, including the AlliGatOr (Appendicitis Global Outcomes) Study. Her passion for Medtech innovation is further exemplified by her project ExPeDite, which was showcased at the 46th Charing Cross Innovation Showcase, The Dragon’s Den.
Beyond research and surgery, Dr Gan is deeply committed to education and mentorship. She serves as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at NUS, a Postgraduate Year 1 Core Faculty member, and a long-standing EnRiCH House Mentor, guiding medical students with both professional and personal support. She also extends her service to the community, directing Project RejuvenAGE for underprivileged elderly residents and contributing to youth engagement and global health through the United Nations Association of Singapore.
Above all, Dr Gan believes that true surgical excellence lies in compassion. She strives to empower patients with clear information, shared decision-making, and treatment plans aligned with their goals—walking beside them throughout their journey. For her, surgery is more than precision and skill; it is about restoring dignity, nurturing trust, and offering hope. With a career defined by purpose, she integrates academic rigour, innovation, and empathy—placing patients at the heart of everything she does.
