SINGAPORE — Artificial intelligence (AI) and data-enabled quality systems are increasingly reshaping how the National University Health System (NUHS) anticipates clinical risks, strengthens decision-making and delivers safe, value-based care – from predicting patient load in the Emergency Department to identifying high-risk cases earlier at the bedside.
These developments take centre stage at the NUHS Quality Day 2026, where NUHS also marks the launch of its Clinical Quality & Patient Safety e-Book, a practical compendium of innovations, lessons and best practices across the academic health system.
Driving this transformation is the NUHS Institute of Clinical Quality (NICQ), the cluster’s central hub for quality improvement, best-practice adoption, as well as operational innovation and measurable patient outcomes. Led by Professor Quek Swee Chye, Executive Director of NICQ, the institute focuses on five key domains:
NICQ serves as a platform for cluster-wide learning, evidence-based practice adoption and scalable improvement, strengthening consistency and reliability of care across NUHS institutions.
Professor Quek Swee Chye said: “Quality and patient safety must remain the anchor of every innovation we introduce. AI and data can help us anticipate risks earlier and design more reliable care systems, but their value lies in how responsibly they are implemented, evaluated and integrated into clinical practice to benefit patients.”
He added: “As healthcare professionals, we must be committed to the responsible adoption of healthcare innovation, ensuring that emerging technologies are rigorously assessed against clinical outcomes, patient safety, workforce impact and cost-effectiveness, and translated into meaningful improvements for patients.”
NUHS Quality Day 2026 brings together senior policymakers, clinicians and international experts to examine how digital innovation can be safely embedded into everyday clinical practice.
Guest of Honour Ms Lai Wei Lin, Permanent Secretary (Policy & Development), Ministry of Health, will deliver the opening address. International perspectives will be shared by Professor Koon Ho Rha, Yonsei University and Director of NAVER Healthcare Lab, Korea, on “Digital Healthcare 2026: Clinical Quality in an Age of Generative AI” and Dr Ross Wilson, CEO of RMW Consulting, U.S., on “Quality Journey in Healthcare and Lessons Learned”.
A panel discussion moderated by Professor Quek and Adjunct Associate Professor Amelia Santosa, the Chairperson of the NUHS Quality Day Organising Committee, with a panel of senior quality leaders from the Ministry of Health, SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, and NHG Health will explore how healthcare systems can translate technology adoption into tangible gains in quality, safety and value, while strengthening cross-institutional collaboration and governance.
Through NUHS Quality Day 2026 and the launch of the Clinical Quality & Patient Safety e-Book, NUHS continues to advance a culture of continuous learning, responsible innovation and system-wide collaboration – strengthening trust, outcomes and sustainability across Singapore’s public healthcare system.
