Dr Ong Jia Ling is a Hospital Clinician in the Department of General Surgery at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, bringing comprehensive surgical expertise and exceptional leadership qualities to her clinical practice. Dr Ong graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, in 2020 and achieved Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2023. Following her graduation, she has received extensive training across the full spectrum of general surgery subspecialties, including hepatopancreatobiliary, colorectal, breast and endocrine, vascular, upper gastrointestinal, plastics, and trauma surgery.
She has served in major tertiary centres including National University Hospital, Singapore General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Throughout these placements, she has managed both elective procedures and emergency surgical cases with distinction, developing expertise across diverse surgical disciplines.
Dr Ong maintains an active academic profile with peer-reviewed publications in respected journals including Case Reports in Oncology, Cureus, and Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinical Medicine. Her research encompasses rare surgical case reports, emergency laparotomy risk scoring systems, and surgical outcome optimisation. She has also presented her work at regional conferences, notably the Evidence-Based Perioperative Medicine Asia Conference.
Beyond her clinical achievements, Dr Ong exemplifies excellence in leadership and athletics. As a decorated national-level varsity athlete and former captain of the NUS Track & Field team, she has demonstrated the discipline and resilience that characterise her approach to surgical practice.
