Biosketch

"Breast surgery is a highly personalised field, where patients have the autonomy to decide on their choice of surgical treatment. My role, as a breast surgeon, is to walk with my patient in the journey of battling breast cancer and guide them through to the closure of their breast conditions. It is most rewarding to me when I see my patients return to normal life especially after breast cancer treatment. I strive to provide my patients with compassionate, evidence based, and equitable care."

Dr Lui Su Ann is a Consultant in the Division of General Surgery with sub-specialty interest in Breast & Oncoplastic Surgery. She graduated from the University of Malaya, Malaysia in 2013 and joined the NUHS General Surgery Residency Programme in 2015, serving as the Chief Resident in her final year.

She earned the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS) in 2016, followed by the Master of Medicine (Surgery) in 2018. In 2020, Dr Lui was conferred the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) and was accredited as a Specialist in General Surgery by the Specialist Accreditation Board.

Dr Lui was awarded the Human Manpower Development Programme Scholarship, through which she completed advanced training in minimally invasive breast surgery training at the Taipei Medical University Hospital, Taiwan and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan in 2024. In 2025, She further pursued her fellowship training in oncoplastic breast surgery at the Monash Cancer Center, Australia.

Practice and Specialisation
Dr Lui's clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of benign and malignant breast conditions, including screening and detection, breast cancer evaluation, diagnosis, counselling, surgical management, and post-treatment surveillance. Her surgical expertise includes mastectomy, breast-conserving surgery and a comprehensive range of oncoplastic techniques, with advanced training in both endoscopic and robotic breast surgery.
In addition to her breast surgery practice, she also maintained her skills and expertise in general surgery and endoscopy. She currently serves as the surgical champion of National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (NSQIP) at the National University of Hospital, where she leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance surgical outcome.

Nurturing the next generation of surgeons
Dr Lui is deeply involved in medical education, previously serving as the Associate Programme Director of the Surgery in General Residency Program of NUHS in 2022. She is a Core Faculty member of the General Surgery Residency Programme and a Clinical Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

Translating research into practice
A strong advocate of translation research, Dr Lui earned a Master of Clinical Investigation from the National University of Singapore in 2022. She currently leads a clinical trial investigating the effectiveness of a haemostatic agent to reduce seroma formation following mastectomy, with the goal of facilitating earlier drain removal and enhancing post-operative recovery.
