Biosketch

Adj A/Prof William Kong Kok Fai graduated from the Auckland University, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) . He completed advanced specialist training in Cardiology in Christchurch Hospital and Wellington Hospital in New Zealand. He was admitted as a fellow of Royal Australasian College of Physician (FRACP) in Cardiology in 2011.

He obtained the Academic Medicine Development Award (AMDA) in 2014 to undergo subspecialty training in interventional echocardiography, structural heart disease/valvular heart disease in Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands under the supervision of Dr Victoria Delgado and Professor Jeroen J Bax, the past president of European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He is also undergoing PhD study at the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) at Leiden, the Netherlands examining the epidemiology, clinical, genetics and imaging aspects of bicuspid aortic valve and aortopathy.

He was subsequently elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh), Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology in 2017, and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology in 2018. He was appointed as Specialty Editor in Cardiology for Singapore Medical Journal since 2016.

Currently, he is running a weekly Specialist Valve Clinic to follow up patients with valvular heart disease and to provide transesopahgeal echocardiography and stress echocardiography services in the National University Hospital (NUH). He is also a member of the Heart Team providing echocardiographic assessment/support for transcatheter therapies for patients who deemed high risk for surgery. In 2020, Adj A/Prof Kong has been appointed as the Clinical Director of Echocardiography & Non-invasive Diagnostic Cardiology, Department of Cardiology, National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS).

Adj A/Prof Kong has published as first author multiple times in some highest impact factor cardiology journals such as European Heart Journal, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging and JAMA Cardiology. He is a reviewer for several international cardiology journals such as Circulation, European Heart Journal and Journal of American Society of Echocardiography (JASE).

He supervises research and clinical training for senior residents and clinical fellows from Singapore and overseas. Adjunct Associate Professor Kong is currently the primary investigator and clinical lead of multiple worldwide valvular and cardiomyopathies research.

Adj A/Prof Kong is also a clinician educator at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine who is actively involved in training year 1-5 medical students. Adj A/Prof Kong' strong passion of educating the next generation of doctors and echo technicians enabled him to be nominated best tutor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
