Dr Teresa Tan is a Senior Consultant in Paediatrics and Palliative Care at the Khoo Teck Puat - National University Children’s Medical Institute, National University Hospital.
She achieved First Class Honours for her intercalated BSc degree in Immunology in 2006, followed by MBBS in 2008 from Imperial College London. She obtained her Master of Medicine (Paediatric Medicine) from NUS and Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2013, and completed Specialist Accreditation for Paediatric Medicine in 2017.
Dr Tan is deeply passionate about the holistic and patient-centred philosophy of care for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. She thus pursued Advanced Specialist training in Adult Palliative Medicine from 2017 – 2020 and is the first paediatrician in Singapore to be dually accredited in Palliative Medicine. She also obtained the FY2022 Learning Development Award, jointly sponsored by MOH and NUH, and completed a 1-year fellowship in Paediatric Palliative Care and Paediatric Cancer Pain at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
She collaborates closely with the multi-disciplinary team within KTP-NUCMI (NUH), and across healthcare systems, ensuring a smooth transition of care for the patients and families. Together with her team, she seeks to understand what matters to each child and family unit, and advocates for their quality of life.
Dr Tan is a member of the KTP-NUCMI Paediatrics Ethics and Advocacy Centre (PEACe), an operational unit that meets on a regular basis to discuss ethical issues concerning children.
She is also a clinical tutor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and is actively involved in the medical education of undergraduates, postgraduate doctors and nursing colleagues, in the areas of general paediatrics, paediatric palliative care, paediatric pain and ethics.
