Biosketch

Dr Constantinos Anastassiades is a Senior Consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at National University Hospital. Prior to joining NUH, he was Head of the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) in Singapore.

He obtained his medical degree from the University of London and completed his medical internship at the University College London Hospital, London, UK. After successfully completing the United States Medical Licensing Examinations, he was certified by the US Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and selected for training in Internal Medicine and then Gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Following his certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, he was appointed as the Michael Sivak Jr. Fellow in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy and Endoscopic Research in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, where he subsequently worked as an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Attending Physician and Consultant Gastroenterologist at Case Western Reserve University. He relocated to Singapore in 2014.

He has been actively involved in research in the area of Endoscopy and presented his work in several national and international meetings. He has authored a book chapter and various journal publications and has served as invited faculty in endoscopy courses in the United States organized by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) as well as in local and international meetings in Singapore.

Dr Anastassiades has an ongoing interest in endoscopic training, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for gastroenterologists and surgeons. He has led initiatives for the development of high-quality local manpower and advanced endoscopy skillsets to meet clinical service needs in the public healthcare sector in Singapore.

He is keenly interested in patient welfare and has received multiple Service Champion Awards during his time in the public healthcare sector in Singapore. He has additionally been awarded local and international professional distinctions including Fellowship in the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

After spending 15 years in the United Kingdom and the United States, he and his wife, who is also a medical doctor, decided to relocate and raise their family in Singapore closer to his wife’s home. Dr Anastassiades enjoys the study of Chinese language, history and culture and, although still far from fluent, has reached an intermediate level of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
