Dr Amutha obtained her MBBS in India (1988) and a Diploma in Child Health from Christian Medical College, Vellore (1995). She practiced as a Paediatrician in Bangalore until 1997 before joining the Department of Neonatology at NUH, Singapore in 2000.
She completed Paediatric and Neonatology training at NUH, with completion of MRCPCH (UK) in 2004, Specialist Accreditation in Paediatrics (2008), and in Neonatology (2009). She also holds an MSc (By Research) from NUS (2000) for work on Newborn Anthropometry.
Currently, Dr Amutha serves as Senior Consultant in Neonatology at NUH and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, where she teaches and trains medical students and postgraduate trainees.
Her clinical interests include Behavioural and Neurodevelopmental Care for at-risk newborns, Transcutaneous Jaundice measurement, and Neonatal Resuscitation with Golden Hour care.
She chairs NUH’s EQUIP Quality Improvement Program (since 2017), directs the Neonatal Resuscitation Course (NUH & NUS), and serves as Specialist Advisor to Polyclinics (since 2020). She is a member of the Community Family and Child Health (CFCH) Advisory Group and the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) Neonatal Subcommittee.
