Dr Chen Jianye graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore (YLLSOM-NUS) in 2006 and was first rotated to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National University Hospital Singapore (NUH) in 2007 which piqued his interest in Thoracic Surgery. He subsequently entered into the Advanced Surgical Training (AST) programme for Cardiothoracic Surgery after serving his National Service and obtained his Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery (FRCS, Ed (CTh)) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017.

Dr Chen has always maintained a keen interest in Thoracic Surgery and his passion for Thoracic Surgery had seen him travelled to Seoul, South Korea to attend the Asian Thoracoscopic Education Programme (ATEP) and Shanghai, China for the Uniportal Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (UVATS) training course at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, well known for its large volume of more than 10,000 major thoracic surgeries per year via minimally invasive approach. Dr Chen also maintained a keen interest in research and had presented oral abstracts at the World Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (WSCTS) meeting in Berlin in 2011 and the Annual Congress of the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia (ATCSA) in Taipei in 2019.

Dr Chen is a strong advocate of performing thoracic surgery via minimally invasive approach and has subspecialty interest is in the management of lung cancer and pleural infections via such approach. Working currently at the National University Hospital Singapore, he hoped to capitalize and synergize the resources available at both NUHS and its sister institution National University Singapore to help guide and optimize the treatment of the above conditions.
