Dr Kok Jaan Yang joined NCIS in May 2024. Prior to this, he was Senior Consultant, Palliative Medicine, Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC) for 16 years. Before that he was with Dover Park Hospice from 2000 to 2008.
He obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine (Cardiff, UK) in 2002. He spent a year in advanced training in Palliative Medicine in Melbourne (St Vincent’s Hospital), Australia, in 2004-2005, under the MOH’s HMDP. From 2006-2008, he was also the Visiting Consultant to National University Hospital, Department of Haematology-Oncology.
Dr Kok was one of the pioneer members of the Palliative Medicine Subspecialty Training Committee (SSTC), appointed by the Specialists Accreditation Board, MOH, to oversee the training of Palliative Medicine Specialists in Singapore from 2007-2018. He also served as one of the Examiners in the Exit Examination for the Palliative Medicine Advanced Specialist Trainees from 2009 to 2022, including as Chief Examiner in some of these examinations.
Dr Kok was also actively involved in non-specialist postgraduate palliative medicine training. He was the founding Programme Director of the National University of Singapore (NUS)’s Graduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine (GDPM) Course from 2014 to 2018, and as the Chief Examiner of this GDPM Examination from 2015 to 2019.Dr Kok was also involved in undergraduate palliative medicine training from 2002 to 2019.
