Dr Yap Sau Hsien is an Anaesthetist and a pain management specialist. He is a Senior Consultant with the Department of Anaesthesia at JurongHealth Campus, practising at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Medical Centre.
Dr Yap graduated from the University of Dundee, Scotland in 1999. He received his fellowship training at the Royal College of Anaesthetists in London in 2006. He further underwent advanced pain management training in Ipswich Hospital for six months and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital for another six months in the United Kingdom. He also holds a diploma in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture as well as a Chinese Herbal Material Medical Diploma. He is qualified to prescribe herbs and administer acupuncture in the United Kingdom.
Prior to joining NTFGH, Dr Yap was a consultant in both anaesthesia and pain management at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust, United Kingdom.
Dr Yap is the clinical lead for the chronic pain service in NTFGH and a member of the hospital’s Medical Safety Committee and Cardiac Arrest Committee. He is also the NTFGH lead in the Singapore Healthcare Improvement Network (SHINe) for medical patient safety. The latter is an umbrella group composed of member healthcare organisations that are collectively committed to better health, better care and lower cost care for patients.
Dr Yap is also regularly involved in teaching all levels of healthcare providers from different disciplines, in both formal and informal settings.
