Adj Asst Prof Mok Ying Ren is a Consultant in the Division of Sports Medicine and Surgery, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, at the National University Hospital (NUH). He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), where he completed his undergraduate medical training as a NUS Scholar (2007–2012). He holds a Master of Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland (2017) and completed his specialist residency in orthopaedic surgery under the NUH Residency Programme in 2022, graduating as Valedictorian of his cohort.
In 2026, Adj Asst Prof Mok undertook an advanced fellowship at the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli in Bologna, Italy, under the mentorship of Professor Stefano Zaffagnini — one of the world's foremost authorities on knee ligament reconstruction. During this fellowship, he received advanced training in the over-the-top (OTT) technique for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, a biologically-driven approach to restoring knee stability with a long-term evidence base.
His clinical focus encompasses the full spectrum of knee surgery and sports injuries, with particular expertise in ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, cartilage restoration, and knee preservation osteotomies. Drawing on his background as a former national athlete, Adj Asst Prof Mok brings a deep understanding of the physical and psychological demands of sport to his clinical practice. He advocates for a multidisciplinary approach to athlete care — integrating the orthopaedic surgeon, sports medicine physician, physiotherapist, athletic trainer, and clinical exercise physiologist — to optimise outcomes and facilitate return to sport.
In addition to his clinical work, Adj Asst Prof Mok is an active researcher in sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery. His publications span ACL reconstruction techniques, knee biomechanics, and sports injury outcomes, and can be accessed at his research page (https://mokyingren.sg/acl/my-acl-research). He also maintains a clinical education website (https://mokyingren.sg/acl), where he regularly publishes patient education resources and surgical technique content on ACL reconstruction and related knee conditions.
Adj Asst Prof Mok is committed to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He serves as a clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and holds an adjunct lecturership with the Department of Physiology at NUS (2023).
A former national athlete in triathlon and marathon — including two Southeast Asian Games gold medals (2007 and 2013), making him the first and only Singaporean to win SEA Games gold medals in two different sports — Adj Asst Prof Mok is a member of the National Anti-Doping Advisory Board (NADAB) and provides advisory support to SportSG and Anti-Doping Singapore. He is a regular speaker at sporting events and community engagements on running, injury prevention, and athletic performance.
