Biosketch

Prof Lee is currently working as Professor and Emeritus Consultant at the Department of Anaesthesia, National University Health System. He graduated in 1976 from the University of Singapore and obtained his Master of Medicine (Anaesthesia) and fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) in 1982 and 1984 respectively. He was awarded the Cecil Gray Prize by ANZCA in 1982. He also holds a certificate in acupuncture and moxibustion from the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Beijing, PRC) and he is the clinical director of acupuncture service at the National University Hospital.

Prof Lee has been involved in the process of training and examination in anaesthesia in Singapore since 1985. He was head of department from 1991-2003. He chaired the Specialist Training Committee and the Residency Advisory Committee (RAC) for anaesthesia from 2000-2013 and is still a member of the RAC. He had also served in many national committees - the Chinese Proprietary Medicine Advisory Committee (Chairman), Medicinal Advisory Committee, Specialist Accreditation Board, Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board, Scientific Review Committee on Claims of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and MOH Steering Committee for Joint Examinations with ABMS.

Prof Lee had served in many national and international professional organizations - Singapore Society of Anaesthesiologists (President 1992 & 1995); Asian Australasian Regional Section of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (Chairman 1998 – 2002); Asian & Oceanic Society of Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Medicine (President 2005 – 2007); Temporary adviser to WHO (1999 – 2007); past and present member of Editorial Boards include Anesthesia and Analgesia, Pain Practice, Acta Anaesthesiologica Taiwanica, Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and Open Journal of Anesthesiology.
 
Prof Lee was awarded the clinician mentor award by the Ministry of Health of Singapore in 2011 for his significant contribution to the specialty, and long service awards by the Ministry of Health, National University of Singapore, and the National University Hospital.
