Dr Lai completed her undergraduate medical training at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2012, where she obtained her Bachelor Degrees in Medicine and Surgery. She was awarded Masters of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2018 and was inducted a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) upon successful completion of her residency training in 2020.
Dr Lai is actively involved in educational programmes and is appointed as a clinical tutor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS) and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. She has received the Research Mentor award and is currently part of the Core Faculty for the National University Health System Ophthalmology Residency Programme.
She has co-authored scientific papers in peer-reviewed international ophthalmology journals and presented in Ophthalmology conferences both locally and internationally. She was part of a team that worked on a system to improve medication adherence and has won several grants, as well as a patent for the device.
Dr Lai is currently the clinical lead for the department in the Next Generation Electronic Medical Record project to provide an integrated system across Singapore’s healthcare organisations for managing patient care.
Her areas of clinical interest include Paediatric Ophthalmology, Cataract and General Ophthalmology and she is also an accredited femtosecond laser cataract surgeon. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
