2023
Congratulations to Professor Aymeric Lim, CEO, National University Hospital, on receiving the NTUC May Day Awards Medal of Commendation. The award is conferred on Senior Management personnel in the Labour Movement network who contribute by promoting and supporting Labour Movement’s outcomes in improving workers’ wages, welfare and work prospects.
The National University Hospital takes a holistic approach towards staff well-being through its three pillars of care: health, food and finance. Under the health pillar, the focus is on access to programmes designed to keep staff healthy. A dedicated clinic operated by its doctors and nurses provides staff with medical care for common ailments, vaccinations and health screenings. On top of a gym that comes with an instructor, regular group exercise classes are organised. A weight management programme developed by the hospital’s dietitians is open to staff with unhealthy BMI, aimed at helping them attain optimum health.
Having adequate food options within the hospital is another focus. A staff canteen offering reasonably-priced meals opened in 2021. The retail mix at the NUH Medical Centre has been revamped in an effort to ensure both staff and visitors have access to a variety of food options, including a brand-new food court that opened recently. NUH recognises the importance of financial literacy and planning. Staff can now tap on a digital financial planning tool and other resources through a partnership with MoneyOwl and the HSEU.
Prof Aymeric is a champion for employee training and development. In 2022, the hospital introduced a signature leadership programme for nurse leaders to enhance their leadership and mentoring skills. It has since been extended to all job groups. To date, over 60 section heads across departments have been appointed, allowing those with leadership potential to strengthen their skillsets.
In the same year, the hospital attained the Accredited Training Organisation status, allowing for highly customised Workforce Skills Qualification certification programmes to be developed in-house. These programmes help frontline staff improve their job competencies. Other formal academic training opportunities are also offered. More than 1,500 staff have benefitted from both initiatives.
"Our people are our greatest asset. When we prioritise the well-being of our staff, we are setting the foundation for incredible care and positive outcomes for our patients. We are honoured to receive the Awards. They are a testament to the hard work and dedication of #TeamNUH, as well as the strong partnership we enjoy with the Healthcare Services Employees’ Union that has enabled us to deliver on our commitment towards the betterment of our staff."-
