A Pulmonary Embolism occurs when blood vessels connected to the lungs become blocked by blood clots. This typically occurs in patients with risk factors such as cancer, being bed bound, and patients who have had surgery.
Symptoms include breathlessness, and an unusually low amount of oxygen in the blood.
Treatment usually involves medications to thin the blood.
