Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. It may occur in one or both lungs. The air sacs may be filled with fluid or pus (purulent material), resulting in cough with phlegm or pus, chills, fever and difficulty breathing.
Pneumonia is caused by a variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Symptoms include cough, yellowish or green phlegm and fever.
A chest X-ray is done to detect infection of the lungs.
