Chairman, Medical Board, NTFGH
Clinical A/Prof Gerald Chua is the Chairman, Medical Board of Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He is a Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine and a Clinical Associate Professor appointed by NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS Medicine).
He obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1999. He was awarded the European Diploma in Intensive Care in 2004. He was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow (2009) and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (2011). He was a clinical fellow at the Intensive Care Department of the University Medical Centre St Radboud, Nijmegen, Netherlands.
He is one of the pioneer leaders of JurongHealth Campus (JHC). He played a key role in establishing the Department of Medicine, then in Alexandra Hospital, in 2009 and headed it from 2009 to 2019.
A dedicated educator, he was JHC’s first Associate Dean, and received the NUS Medicine Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2015 and 2016. In April 2019, he was appointed Vice Chairman, Medical Board (Clinical Education) and led the strategic planning to strengthen clinical education and build a future-ready pipeline of healthcare professionals.
At the national level, he chairs the Intensive Care Medicine Sub-Specialty Training Committee and represents the Division of Graduate Medical Studies, NUS Medicine on the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians Part 1 Examination Board. He also contributes to the field of research ethics as a member of an NHG Domain-Specific Review Board (DSRB) and the Institutional Review Board of St Luke’s Hospital.
For over 25 years of service to public healthcare, Dr Chua was conferred the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) at the 2020 National Day Awards.
