GlaxoSmithKline launched the Academic Centre of Excellence (ACE) in 2010 to be a virtual research network that will establish collaborations on projects of mutual interest to GSK and Singapore Investigators. Projects could include target discovery and validation, biomarker identification, or screening and drug development. More information can be found at the website http://www.ace.gsk.com/.
Successful proposals will identify areas of mutual interest in which critical questions may be answered to reveal breakthroughs in understanding of disease. GSK has substantial drug discovery efforts across several major therapeutic areas. The list of major therapeutic areas of interests can be viewed under the tab ‘About GSK'. These lists should not be regarded as exclusive interests, rather than areas of highly active interest.
A Master Confidentiality Agreement exists between GSK and several Singapore research institutes; however it is advisable to limit preliminary disclosures to non-confidential material. If you have any questions about confidentiality please ask your technology transfer office or contact GSK at ace@gsk.com.
Funding
Budgets should minimally separate costs associated with personnel, equipment and consumables.
Application
Application form (downloaded here) includes a 2 page proposal:
- Statement of objectives
- Outline of approximate timelines
- Approach and methodology
- Budget
- Anticipated outcomes
Additionally, please answer the following 3 questions:
- Summarize the evidence suggesting a causal role for the target or pathway of interest in disease formation or progression.
- Summarize the current approaches to treat the diseases (or diseases) and how modulating this target or pathway provides a different approach to the disease (or diseases).
- How would your research project be enhanced through collaboration with GSK? What would be the first milestone to suggest success?
GSK Review Process
Preliminary evaluation will take place shortly after submission and will assess the essential alignment with the interests of GSK.
Timelines to project deliverables can be anywhere from six months to two years. Intermediate milestones are recommended for longer projects.
The proposal will either be transferred to the relevant Discovery Performance Unit or investigators will be informed of an unsuccessful proposal. Where possible, guidance will be provided to unsuccessful proposals for potential re-submission.
GSK’s research team will work with the Singapore Investigator to refine the proposal and research agreements will be established with the appropriate technology transfer representatives.
Submission Process
While this is an open call by GSK and proposals can be submitted anytime, we would appreciate if you could submit your proposal to the staff below for our onward submission to GSK. We will send the proposals every month end to facilitate all applications.
