The Incentive for Research and Innovation Scheme (IRIS) aims to encourage and support Singapore-based Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and Research Institutes, as well as Singapore registered companies, to engage in basic and applied research and develop new capability in environmental and water technologies, with the ultimate goal of achieving maximum economic success and creating a competitive advantage for the environmental and water industry and for Singapore.
EWI has launched the Open Call 10/02 for Water Technologies to solicit new R&D ideas and technologies in the areas of water and used water that fulfill the following key objectives:
- Increase water resources
- Improve water quality and security
- Reduce energy consumption
- Lower chemical usage
- Minimize waste generation
Eligibility
The call is opened to Singapore-based Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and Research Institutes, as well as Singapore-registered companies, and all research activities must be carried out in Singapore.

Schedule of Annual Call and Activities
There are two calls a year -July and December
Request for proposals under IRIS may be solicited through the following:
- Challenge Request for Proposals (July)
- Directed Request for Proposals / Research Programme Call (December)
Please note there could be other ad hoc requests for proposals launched by EWI at anytime of the year.
Application Procedure
A) Online submission
The proposal information should be submitted via RITA system by 20 Sep 2010 - Monday, 12pm. Staff would need to register for a user ID (if you do not already have an ID). Please click here for the RITA User Guide.
The following items should be completed and uploaded onto the RITA system.
- Duly completed "IRIS Form (RFP 1002)"
- CVs of PI and Collaborator(s)
- Detailed Budget Justifications
- Other supporting documents (eg. Quotations), if applicable
B) Hardcopy and Softcopy submission
