Investigational Medicine Unit (IMU)

Home > Research > NUHS Core Facilities > Investigational Medicine Unit (IMU)

The National University Health System (NUHS) has established the Investigational Medicine Unit (IMU), a key node that will integrate ongoing research programmes together with upcoming ones in experimental therapeutics and investigational medicine. IMU also promotes close collaborations between scientists and clinicians to translate laboratory discoveries into interventions that can advance patient care. Through this approach, clinician-researchers can be nurtured to become thought leaders for the treatment of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, as well as other ailments prevalent to Singapore.

IMU further aims to be the knowledge and physical hub for multi-disciplinary research efforts between basic scientists from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and clinicians from the National University Hospital, between clinicians of different disciplines and even between NUHS and other healthcare institutions.

Under the aegis of IMU, established research groups will not only benefit from its core facilities, they will also enjoy access to critical scientific expertise, made up from a nucleus of clinician-investigators, clinical pharmacologists, biostatisticians and other support staff necessary for a globally competitive outfit.

Specially configured for the conduct of Good Clinical Practice compliant studies, the IMU will concentrate on early research in humans, including Proof of Concept, Phase 1 and Phase 2a trials for novel drugs and diagnostics. In addition, the IMU will also host various studies like First-in-Man trials, research on biomarkers and disease mechanisms as well as bio-imaging analysis.
