| Dr Ong
Wei Chen graduated from the medical school at the National University of
Singapore in 1997 and obtained her membership diploma from the Royal
College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000 and Masters in Medicine in
Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 2001. She completed
her Advanced Surgical Training in Plastic Surgery in Singapore and is a
certified plastic surgeon with the Singapore Medical Council. In 2004,
she was awarded the Human Manpower Development Programme scholarship and
proceeded on to fulfill a one year Microsurgical Fellowship programme
at the Bernard O'Brien Institute of Microsurgery and St. Vincent's
Hospital, Melbourne. In her year there, she gained experience in many
areas of reconstructive surgery as well as in tissue engineering. Her
areas of interest include Breast Reconstruction, Head and Neck
Reconstruction, Facial Reconstruction after facial nerve palsy,
Lymphoedema Surgery. Besides clinical work, she is also actively
involved in Tissue Engineering research. She has completed a project on
Liver Tissue Engineering and is currently working on a further project
in collaboration with Department of Engineering, National University of
Singapore. She has also authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed
journals and book chapters on reconstructive surgery. She also actively
participates in international conferences and has helped organized the
1st and 2nd Asia-Pacific Perforator and Supermicrosurgery Course in
Singapore in 2007 and 2009.
