Objectives

NUHS is the only sponsoring institution for preventive medicine training in Singapore, and therefore offers a national training program for this specialty. Our training program is designed to create a foundation for excellence in preventive medicine care upon which lifelong learning may take place.

The objectives in Year 1 to Year 3 are to equip residents with a sound and adequately broad foundation, directed towards an explicit set of competencies that is based on both theory and practical experience, and which covers the generic functions of a preventive medicine specialist.

Year 1- Clinical component

Year 2- Basic practicum with didactic modules

Year 2- Basic practicum with didactic modules

In the Advanced Practicum phase (Year 4 - 5), the focus is on developing skills in a specific specialty area of preventive medicine. The emphasis in this phase is on acquiring specialized skills and knowledge

During the training program, rotations are performed in NUHS and our diverse teaching affiliate institutions, which offer a wide spectrum of training within a nurturing environment under the close supervision and mentorship of distinguished and experienced faculty. Upon successful completion of the training program,  the resident will establish a fulfilling career in preventive medicine in the government, private sector, academia, in NGOs, or in international health organizations.
