Dr Thomas Thamboo is an Assistant Professor and Consultant at the Department of Pathology, National University Health System. He graduated from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom in 1995. He trained in Histopathology at the Department of Pathology, National University of Singapore, and obtained his specialist degrees in Histopathology from both the Royal College of Pathologists (United Kingdom) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2004. He undertook further specialist training in renal pathology at the department of cellular pathology at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, United Kingdom in 2006.
His subspecialty pathology interests include renal pathology, urologic pathology and ophthalmic pathology. He is currently involved in several research projects in these areas and has 40 peer-reviewed publications in international and local journals.
He is the Histopathology Laboratory Director and oversees the running of the histopathology lab and quality activities.
He is currently the clinical lead for a digital pathology pilot project, which is looking at the feasibility and utility of digital slide imaging for diagnostic use, archiving, teaching and research. He is also involved in the production of teaching material for the combined ophthalmology-radiology-pathology online teaching website.
