Dr Loke obtained his basic medical degree (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 1984. He received his general paediatric training at the National University Hospital from 1987 to 1989, which culminated in his postgraduate degree (Masters of Medicine in Paediatrics) in 1989. He joined the National University of Singapore as teaching faculty in 1990, choosing Paediatric Endocrinology as his subspecialty. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1990, was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) in 1998, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2002.

His specialist training in clinical paediatric endocrinology was undertaken at The Children’s Hospital, Sydney, from 1991 to 1992, under the tutelage of Professor Martin Silink and Dr Chris Cowell. This was followed by one year’s research training at the UCLA Medical Centre, Los Angeles, from 1992 to 1993, under the tutelage of Professor Barbara Lippe.

Following training, he returned to the National University Hospital, and established the clinical, research and teaching arms of the Paediatric Endocrine Service, including the organization of annual activities for children and adolescents with diabetes.

Dr Loke is currently Senior Consultant, and heads the Paediatric Endocrine Service at the Children’s Medical Institute, National University of Singapore. His research interests include the genetics of adrenal disorders and obesity, and he obtained the Doctorate of Medicine for his Thesis on the Molecular Pathogenesis of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia and X-Linked Adrenal Hypoplasia Congenita in 2002.
