Dr Gerald Chua is currently a consultant respiratory and intensive care physician at the Department of Medicine, National University Hospital, Singapore. He is also the program director of the NUHS Internal Medicine Residency Program.
He graduated in medicine in Singapore in 1994 and obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the UK in 1999. He was awarded the European Diploma in Intensive Care in 2004 by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
Dr Chua completed his post-graduate intensive care training with a clinical fellowship at the Department of Intensive Care of the University Medical Centre St Radboud, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. His main clinical and academic interests are in hemodynamic monitoring and renal support therapy in the intensive care unit.
Dr Chua’s other interests are in medical and nursing education. He has delivered lectures and conducted workshops for intensive care physicians and nurses in numerous hospitals in Asia. He runs the medical simulation program for final year medical students from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and conducts workshops on team training and crisis resource management for the Institute for Clinical Education, NHG College.
He is an executive committee member of the Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Singapore and the National Resuscitation Council, Singapore. He chairs the Life Support Committee of NUH and is an Associate Chairman of the Medical Board of NUH overseeing graduate medical education.
His most recent appointment is as Chief of Medicine of the Jurong General Hospital.
