Associated Professor Malcolm Mahadevan graduated from National University of Singapore in 1991 and obtained his FRCSEd in 1995. He was awarded 2 Human Manpower Development scholarships. The first in 1995 to UK (Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and St James University Hospital) and in 1999 to the US as the first International Fellow in Observation Medicine (University of Hartford Medical School & Yale University). He was also appointed Clinical Instructor. He is also responsible for the setting up of the first Observation Unit (Extended Diagnostic and Treatment Unit or EDTU) since 2004.


Currently the Head of the Department and Senior Consultant he is also Clinical Senior Lecturer of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.


Areas of interest include critical care of the septic patient and early goal directed therapy, respiratory disease in the ED patient including asthma, COPD and Community Acquired Pneumonia. Other interest areas include clinical indices in the ED and improving clinical quality as well as interactive bedside teaching. He is also the author of Observation Medicine in Rosen's textbook of Medicine.
