Sub-committees

There are 8 sub-committees within the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), namely

  • Curriculum (coordinates Residency Teaching)
  • Education IT
  • Faculty Development
  • Medical Education & Resident Research (the latter coordinates Pitch for Fund & Eminent Speakers' Series)
  • Residents Sub-com
  • Simulation (coordinates Simulation training)
  • Resident Training Support Subcommittee is the overarching committee that drives:
 Remediation Sub-Committee which adopts an analytic approach to resident remediation and counseling with the various tools available and makes recommendations to DIO and GMEC.
 Counselling which provides professional counselling service to residents.
  • Quality in Education (QiE) Subcommittee is the overarching committee that drives:
 Resident & Faculty Evaluation which formulates and reviews resident, faculty and programme evaluations processes/matters, and ensuring consistency among programmes.  It also oversees the promotion of residents to senior residents.
 Accreditation & Internal Review which are responsible in auditing the institution and the programmes for compliance with ACGME-I Common, specialty/subspecialty-specific Programme, and Institutional Requirements. This entails setting up the internal review framework for each programme and implementing the review process at the mid-point of the accreditation cycle.
     Programme Quality Evaluation
 Resident & Graduates Quality which oversees the Alumni Network and Residency Leadership Development (launched in 2015 Oct) among other initiatives.

Each sub-committee has its roles and responsibilities in ensuring the residency programmes fulfill their training requirements. All sub-committees report to the GMEC, which will hear their findings, discuss the issues, and is the ultimate decision maker on any issues requiring a vote or approval. The GMEC meets as a whole on a monthly basis to discuss and convene on any issues pertaining to residency training.

Peer-selected  residents  will  form  the  resident  welfare sub-committee, which  is  part  of  the GMEC.  This sub-committee will be chaired by a “Resident Mentor” who is a senior resident appointed by the GMEC. This committee provides a forum for residents’ discussion and input into all matters pertaining to GMEC activities.  It also  ensures effective  communication among residents  and  provide a  platform  for addressing  concerns  in a confidential manner.
