The donation is eligible for the dollar-for-dollar matching grant by the Singapore Ministry of Education. The Professorship will advance academic medicine and research work in the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and contribute to the advancement and delivery of better healthcare. The Professorship is established in memory of the Chief Justice and Mrs Chan’s late daughter, Ms Isabel Chan, who died from breast cancer on 1 September 2008. To commemorate the second anniversary of Ms Chan’s death, the University, in consultation with Chief Justice Chan, announced the first Isabel Chan Professor in Medical Sciences, eminent oncologist Professor John Wong, Dean of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
