Two researchers from the Department of Psychological Medicine win the inaugural Alice Lim Memorial Fund Awards

On 21 Aug, two researchers, Dr Feng Lei and Ms Lena Lim, both from the Department of Psychological Medicine, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine won the inaugural Alice Lim Memorial Fund Awards for their research on gerontology. Dr Feng and Ms Lim were awarded $30,000 each at the public seminar on 'Dementia: the rising tide' organized by the Gerontological Society of Singapore at York Hotel.
Dr Feng's research paper was titled 'Cognitive function and tea consumption in community dwelling older Chinese in Singapore', while Ms Lim's research paper was 'Living alone, lack of a confidant and psychological well-being of elder women in Singapore: the mediating role of loneliness'. The researchers plan to use their awards for research on elderly folk living on their own at Jurong.

The Gerontological Society of Singapore was founded in March 1986 by a multi-disciplinary group consisting of geriatricians, psychiatrists, social scientists, physiotherapists, and other professionals. The society is headed by Prof Kua Ee Heok, Department of Psychological Medicine.
