The Challenges
You will carry out non-invasive cardiac procedures, monitor haemodynamic parameters of patients during invasive cardiac procedures and assist the cardiologist in specialized procedures in accordance with established standards of care and practice in a tertiary cardiology centre.
Duties:
You will perform 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECG) and transthoracic echocardiography on inpatients and outpatients; set up 24-hour ambulatory ECG/blood pressure monitoring; and perform pacemaker checks on patients with permanent pacemakers. You will monitor haemodynamic parameters in the invasive cardiac laboratory and enter data into a comprehensive clinical database. In addition, you will assist the doctor in exercise stress tests, signal-averaged ECG, tilt table tests, transeosophageal echocardiography (TEE), dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE), nuclear cardiac scans, electrophysiologic studies (EPS) and ablation, and permanent pacemaker implantation. You may also be required to perform dilution of drugs, intravenous cannulation and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The Requirements
- Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent with related working experience.
- Diploma in Cardiac Medical Technology/Nursing/Biotechnology with more than 2 years working experience. Fresh polytechnic graduates may also apply.
