Support Infrastructure and Facilities

Building and Facilities

Having dedicated space for clinical, research and teaching work is necessary to advance and enhance healthcare. Your gift can go towards supporting infrastructure and facilities for specialist outpatient clinics, research laboratories, lecture theatres and seminar rooms as well as other facilities that will allow our patients to receive care in the most appropriate setting and also enable staff to work and learn in a conducive environment.

Centre for Translational Medicine

The Centre for Translational Medicine (CeTM) is a dedicated space for biomedical research, teaching and training. Expected to be completed in the second half of 2011, it will house some of the world's most talented researchers and educators to provide solutions to Singapore and the region's medical challenges.

The CeTM will house a state-of the-art clinical training centre where computerised simulators will allow medical and nursing students to hone their skills on mannequins instead of human patients. This simulated hospital environment will enable trainees to learn how to treat patients without exposing them to unnecessary risks.

Key research conducted in its translational research laboratories will be targeted at diseases particularly relevant to Singapore and the region - such as cancer, heart, eye and infectious diseases, metabolic disorders including diabetes and obesity, as well as the neurosciences especially in dementia and stroke. A clinical research facility will enable clinical trial studies to test promising new drugs, while an advanced imaging facility will be the focal point for the development and testing of new imaging methods to locate diseases. Medical and nursing students will also benefit from a well-equipped medical library and conducive teaching facilities.
