The Giving Tree

Introduction

On the evening of 3 December 2010, about 170 staff and friends of the NUHS gathered at the NUHS Tower Block foyer to kick off the Giving Tree Project 2010.  

What initially started out as a simple suggestion for a Christmas tree in the foyer to brighten the year-end mood quickly turned into a fundraising drive led by Prof Chong Yap Seng, Dr Lee Shu Jin, Dr David Ong, Dr Kieron Lim and the NUHS Communications and Development office.  The objective – to raise S$300,000 for needy patients at NUH. Soon, the project drew the attention of the Chinese Women’s Association, whose leadership drew on their own resources, time and personal contacts to contribute to this very worthy cause.

 

Amount raised

 

A total of $306,052.19 was raised from the event. Generous donors include NUHS staff from various departments, corporations and foundations, and external donors. The table below details the amount given by these three groups of donors. The total amount raised has since gone towards providing financial assistance to our needy patients and their families.
