Welcome to the website of the National University Health System (NUHS). NUHS was incorporated in January 2008, to bring the National University Hospital (NUH), and the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS-YLLSoM) and Faculty of Dentistry (NUS-FoD) under a common governance structure

The formation of NUHS is a historic and strategically important initiative for NUS and NUH, which will enable our doctors, faculty and staff to work even more effectively together, so as to achieve excellence in clinical service, education and research.

NUHS will create a dynamic and exciting environment, as well as the platforms where clinicians can work closely together with basic science and clinical researchers. This will allow us to focus the full power of the basic science research expertise in Singapore and beyond, to bear on studying important health problems and diseases, particularly those which are most relevant to Singapore and Asia. In turn, this will lead to better quality of clinical care, better outcomes, and significant locally-developed medical advances. At the same time, important questions and observations made in the clinic, will help inform and inspire the basic research that is being carried out in NUS, and with our research collaborators. As a consequence, the quality and impact of our research will rise even further. NUHS will also provide a highly stimulating learning environment for medical students, specialist trainees and graduate research students. Such immersion and participation in research-lead medicine and medical practice, trains minds to be more inquisitive, excites and inspires the young, and ultimately produces better doctors.

 At the heart of it, excellence in clinical care delivery and biomedical sciences research and education is all about talented people. NUHS is strongly committed to nurture, retain and recruit the best clinicians, scientists, staff and students, who are motivated by the desire to excel in academic medicine. NUHS is also fully committed to inclusive engagement and partnerships with other institutions in Singapore and internationally.
